I would like to wish a warm welcome to the changes to Dundrum Main Street starting today, Monday 10th of August. As a result of these changes, pedestrians and cyclists will have more space and more safety as part of the Council’s mobility interventions to respond to Covid-19.
The new one-way system through the village and the redirection of some buses to the by-pass is aimed at traffic calming. We will have much needed improvements to the streetscape in the village, with new seating and planting which we hope will make it an attractive place to walk, do business and stay a while. The photos of Main Street below make the point about the need for this!
Imagine Dundrum has long been advocating for these improvements and investment in the village. There is much still to be done to raise the quality of the environment in Dundrum but this is a great start and we thank the DLR team for their work in making this happen.
There will be some disruption in the short term, and local people will be looking at new routes to work and school. Maps of the changes, including the location of bus stops, are available to view here.
The Council has also prepared an interactive map where parents and students can check the cycling and walking routes to school which will be launched next week, in advance of any re-opening.
If anyone has any queries or concerns about how they might be affected by these changes, you can email me here and I would be very happy to look at them with you.
Stay safe.
