The Dundrum entry of the National Enterprise Town Awards has won the Regional award in category 3 (5,000 population) at the finals in Kilkenny 5th December at its first attempt! I was delighted on behalf of Imagine Dundrum to be part of the team which put together the winning Dundrum bid. The team included representatives from Airfield, DLR County Council Community Development Dundrum2030, Dundrum Town Centre, Imagine Dundrum, Men’s Sheds and local historian, John Lennon. The committee was supported by Bank of Ireland manager, Helen Coffey and many local businesses and community organisations.
The National Enterprise Town Awards, run by Bank of Ireland is now in its fourth year. With prizes for communities up to €20,000, it is hotly contested. This year’s overall winner was Kilkenny, The Awards aim to showcase how business and community work together in an area to bring economic sustainability.
The judges spent three hours in Dundrum, last October, where they viewed a short video and presentation, an historical walk down main street, a tour of Dundrum Town Centre and Airfield plus a walk around a pop up men’s shed. Local community and residents activities were represented at a showcase in Airfield.
The prizewinners were announced at a function in the Lyrath Hotel Kilkenny, where the Dundrum team were thrilled to be presented with the award as regional winners in their category.
