At the moment, very welcome work to support social distancing in Dundrum is being undertaken by the Council. As part of this work, there is an opportunity to make some simple changes that will benefit those of us who need it most.
For all of Dundrum’s many strengths, it is an inhospitable place for people with disabilities, according to the visually impaired people and wheelchair users with whom Imagine Dundrum has spoken. The street is badly cluttered with street furniture, much needed bike-racks are present but positioned in ways that can obstruct pavements, and planters, while wonderful for those of us who can see them clearly, pose a challenge and a danger for those of us who cannot.
Imagine Dundrum has made detailed submissions to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council requesting action to be taken as a matter of urgency to make Dundrum Village more accessible for people with disabilities. What works for people with disabilities will also work for older people, parents with buggies and citizens more generally. Let us not miss this opportunity. If this impacts on you, do contact your local councillor and flag your support for action in support of accessibility.
